Bilingualism and Its Implications for Neuropsychological Evaluation

Abstract Objective In the background of a large population bilinguals globally, study aimed to develop standards neuropsychological testing in context bilingualism. Because bilingualism is known affect cognitive processes, and monolinguals were compared on their performance tests, investigate possibility need for separate normative data two groups. Method A comprehensive test battery, standardized across five Indian languages: Council Medical Research-Neuro Cognitive Tool Box (ICMR-NCTB) was administered 530 participants (267 monolingual 263 matched age education). systematic method cognition developed; identify appropriate language testing, ensure proficiency examiner, interpret bilingual responses. Additionally, ICMR-NCTB with monolinguals. Results performed most proficient participants, by examiners well versed language. from language-based tests suggested that frequent occurrence borrowed- language-mixed words required consideration while scoring. The reported effect processes did not reflect as differences between Conclusions Observations provide robust recommendations indicate may be will relevant reference framework address similar issues other societies.
